Why Scarborough?

At the eastern end of Toronto, there’s Scarborough. There’s no glitz or glamour here. This is a suburban landscape at its best – a land of strip malls and low rise buildings.

But what we lack in style, we make up for in taste and character.

Scarborough has always been part of Toronto’s growth story – and a landing point for many migrants who brought foods and cultures here. Coming to a new land, some opt to try entrepreneurship – and our food landscape is a testament to the many communities who have settled and built restaurants: Greek, Italian, Chinese, Syrian, Turkish, Jamaican, Indian, Tamil, Trini – the list goes on.

But this is not just any food. This is food from back home. And increasingly, new fusions as cultures mix and share ideas. These are restaurants that seek to bring the flavours they love to life in a new city – and share these flavours with new audiences. Dishes and fusions you just won’t find anywhere else find a home here. Tyler Cowan, a renowned Academic and Foodie, once dubbed Scarborough as the “best ethnic food suburb I have seen in my life” We couldn’t agree more.

Rich and flavourful Shawarma, succulent Hainan Chicken Rice, crispy Doubles, spicy Chilli Fish, creamy Kanafeh, aromatic Biryani and unique fusions like Jerk Shawarma combine to make Scarborough an ideal choice for a tasty discovery that can rival any food destination.

Come experience all of it – hear the stories, learn the heritages, feel our famous “Scarborough Vibe”, learn what a “Warden Station Patty” is, and, most importantly, make a flavourful memory you won’t likely forget soon.

You’ll definitely be glad you came.

Why Eat More Scarborough?

We want you to do what’s in our name – eat more food from Scarborough!

And, no joke, our tours are full of Scarborough food – with extra to take home.  We just love promoting and repping Scarborough restaurants – they’re part of what makes our community awesome.

We’re also locals. We live and work here. This is the community we want to show off and we’re always happy to do it.

And we want you to experience it, appreciate it, learn a lot and tell your friends. Our tours always combine stories and histories of the people and places with lively discussion and sharing of our own experiences and relationship with food. As one participant said: “it’s like a Jane’s Walk, but with food!” We feel that sums it up nicely.

So why not – #EatMoreScarborough?

Meet our Guide

Eat More Scarborough was founded by Howard Tam, a dedicated and passionate Scarborough Foodie. He has lived in Agincourt most of his life and is proud to show off the best food that Scarborough has to offer. Described as an “encyclopedia of Scarborough Food”, Howard has been running tours all around Scarborough for the last few years, by foot, by bike, by car and by bus.

An urban planner and city builder by day, Howard loves to explore Scarborough & its restaurants in his spare time. Most weekends, you will find him either running another food tour or playing Scarborough Strip Plaza Roulette – randomly picking spots in strip plazas to see what good food comes up.

Our interactive tours combine our passion for city building with food. Tours will pair eating with food stories & culture stories, such as the history of the food or the story of the food entrepreneur. Tour attendees will not just get a chance to try delicious food, but get a chance to meet some of the owners, learn about Scarborough history and discuss food related issues and topics.

Previous Tours

We’ve been doing Scarborough food tours since 2018. Here are some of the tasty routes we’ve followed in the past!

  • Lawrence Eats on Lawrence East: Lawrence East in Wexford is one of the epicentres of great food in Scarborough. From shawarma to Halal jerk and Karahi, we tour some of the best and tastiest offerings along what might be the most diverse food strip in the GTA. The combinations are endless – and on previous tours we have tried kebabs, baklava, Kanafeh, and Moussaka. What might the next tour on this strip hold? You should come to find out!
  • Up and Down the Line: The Scarborough RT is Really Tasty! We’ve often been asked if there are great restaurants close to transit stations in Scarborough (we admit, they are often located in the middle of nowhere). But we figured it out! On this tour, we explore all of the best restaurants within a (suburban) walking distance of all TTC station in Scarborough. We try some really yummy Sushi, Morog Pulao, Souvlaki, Jamaican Patties and Roti!
  • Morningside with a Side of Jollof:  At the eastern end of Scarborough you find some of the best West African BBQ, Southern BBQ and pizza this side of Yonge Street! On this tour, we also try some of the best Doubles – a Scarborough staple – and visit a local bistro dedicated to all the great things about The Six. As part of this tour we also visit the beautiful Highland Creek valley and Morningside Park. There is nothing better than beautiful scenery and beautiful food.
  • Agincourt & Sheppard Eats on Sheppard East: Often referred to as “Asiancourt”, Agincourt truly lives up to its nickname with some of the best Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Filipino and Indian food in Toronto! We venture along Sheppard East, another major food epicentre in Scarborough, to try some of these cuisines – along a strip where chain restaurants have actually left to make way for local, authentic fare! Not to be missed!
  • Across the Top: The Steeles Food Crawl: Steeles Ave maybe the boundary of Scarborough, but it’s the centre of a vibrant foodie fest that straddles both sides of the border. We start with the best Chinese rice rolls in the city followed by hand pulled noodles, Korean, Smoked Meat and Thai rolled ice cream. Not to be missed is the stop at Pacific Mall to meet all of your Asian product desires!
  • Best of Scarborough: This is our classic, most requested tour of the key food highlights of Scarborough. While Scarborough food is always fantastic, this tour showcases the most unique and inspiring restaurants and includes a visit to some of the most innovative supermarkets in the GTA. If you’ve got one day and 4 hours and want to just see what all the buzz is about – this tour is for you!

And we’re always adding new tours, themes, cuisines and concepts! Sign up to our newsletter to be kept in the loop!
